The Kwara State Government has promised to investigate the gruesome murder of a woman by an irate mob in Ilorin, even as the family demanded for justice to console the members.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, made the promise recently during a visit of the Ministry’s delegates to the family of the victim.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Elder Peter Kayode Ayanwale, Hajia Imam described the incident as unfortunate and inhumane and vowed to ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
While condemning the act, the Commissioner described it as regrettably avoidable, noting that the incident could have been reported to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation.
Hajia Imam promised that the act would be thoroughly investigated and assured that appropriate punishments would be meted out to those found guilty, emphasising that the state government has zero tolerance for acts that could alter the rights of individuals in the state, as the right to life is a fundamental human right.
She warned those in the habit of engaging in jungle justice to desist, stressing that acts of mob rule will not be condoned in any part of Kwara State.
Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved family, the Magaji of Olaoti Compound, Ilorin, Alhaji Issa Olaoti, expressed profound gratitude to the state government for its concern over the tragedy that struck the family, appealing to the state government to ensure that those behind the incident are brought to the book.
