The Kwara State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the protection of children’s rights and their overall safety, with a focus on safeguarding them from all forms of abuse and violence in society.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, stated this recently while speaking at the 2026 Children’s Party organised by the Ministry in Ilorin.
Hajia Imam reaffirmed that the state government would continue to do everything possible to ensure the protection and safety of children, noting that their well-being is central to building a healthy society and children constitute a vulnerable and dependent group.
She pledged the state government’s support in ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential, thereby securing a brighter and more equitable future for themselves and the state.
“I want you to know that the Kwara State Government stands as your guardian, your protector and your supporter. We carry you in our hearts and in our policies. We are committed to giving you not just shelter but a future filled with care, education, dignity and opportunity,” she said.
The Commissioner explained that the party was aimed at uplifting the children’s spirits, improving their overall well-being and fostering a sense of belonging and noted that the gathering was more than a celebration, saying it is “a moment of love, compassion, reassurance and an opportunity to remind our precious children that they are seen, valued and deeply loved.”
She commended the state government’s development partners whose initiatives focus on addressing children’s issues across the state and described them as an integral part of the government’s efforts to protect children’s rights, appreciating their perspectives and feedback in strengthening child-focused programmes.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, expressed gratitude to the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for providing the necessary support and resources to enable Ministries to achieve their set goals.
He commended the management and staff of the Ministry of Social Development for organising the event and expressed that it created memorable moments and made the children feel celebrated, encouraging the children to relax, enjoy themselves and remain focused on achieving their ambitions in life.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, also appreciated the Ministry for its thoughtfulness in organising programmes that promote joy and positive experiences for children.
